The first exhibition in the new Asia House gallery shows the acclaimed work of the photojournalist Steve McCurry, with images of India, Afghanistan, Cambodia and Tibet. Through May 1, 2006 – Cast and Chased: Japanese Bronzes of the Meiji Period. Victoria and Albert Museum, Cromwell Road, South Kensington, London SW7 2RL. The Edwin and Susan Davies Collection of Japanese bronzes of the late 19th century includes superb examples of the work of the craftsman metalworker, and the objects illustrate a wide range of metalworking techniques. They are chiefly figurative and include subjects from Japanese mythology as well as decorative animal studies. Through May 1, 2006 – Fashioning Kimono: Dress in Early 20th Century Japan . Victoria and Albert Museum, Cromwell Road, South Kensington, London SW7 2RL. The boldly patterned and brilliantly coloured kimono featured in this display reveal the dynamism of early 20th century Japanese textile design. The garments, for women, men and children, are borrowed from a major private collection and are being exhibited for the first time. The display will be rotated on December 12 and February 20. March 17 - 19, Tuvan Throat singer. Incredible Tuvan Throat singer Steve Sklarr will be in the area. Diane and Steve team up for a spectacular evening of a variety of Throat Singing Styles and Tibetan Bowl concert on Fri March 17. Steve will offer a workshop Saturday and Sunday. Tea Pavilion
The Tea Pavilion offers an expanded Japanese menu that includes among many other items: sushi, salads, noodle dishes, soups, yakitori rice bowls and sando-sushi rolls, which are sandwiches served with pickled vegetables. The Tea Pavilion will be open the same hours as the Garden: Tuesdays through Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm. (10 percent discount to Garden members).
